The next generation notebooks meant for the education sector, the Lenovo Classmate+ laptops, available in clamshell as well as convertible form factors, have been designed to suit the rough treatment they are bound to receive from students. The list of features offered by these durable devices reads long battery life, Intel Learning Series software, spill resistance and digital writing amongst others.

The rugged notebooks are said to be a step ahead of the previous generation Classmate laptops. Besides a water resistant keyboard, the steel hinge, tough corner design and stronger DC jack add to their durability. Both devices are fitted with 10.1-inch anti-glare displays, which come in options of high-brightness and high-definition. Additionally, the convertible’s screen boasts of multi-touch capabilities as well as stylus support for input flexibility.

“The latest Classmate laptops equipped with Intel Atom processor technology up the level of computing power and performance for students without sacrificing long battery life. We are thrilled that Lenovo will be expanding their presence in our Intel Learning Series Alliance and that schools around the world can take advantage of this purpose-built technology for 1:1 e-learning,” stated Dr. Wayne Grant, EMPG’s Director of Research and Planning at Intel Corporation.

Fueled by the Intel Atom N2600 processor and 2GB DDR3 RAM, they can support hard drives as well as a SSD of up to 32GB capacity. The grey colored Classmate laptops acquire power from 6-cell batteries that claim to cough up the juice for about 10 hours of continuous computing. These notebooks are armed with 2MP webcams, and offer connectivity options like USB ports, VGA and HDMI functionality.

The Lenovo Classmate+ Convertible portable computer has been fitted with a rotating hinge which should endure about tens of thousands of cycles. It is embedded with a hardware button to facilitate easy scrolling through ebooks and the optional Trusted Platform Module negates the possibility of software attacks as well as physical theft of personal information. Moreover, the Intel Learning Series makes for an improved student experience.

The Lenovo Classmate+ clamshell and Convertible release date and prices are yet to be revealed, but they are expected to hit store shelves this month.
