Dell claims to have introduced a workstation-class computing solution in a compact form factor with their latest release. The company has unveiled the Dell Precision M4500 mobile workstation in a 15.6” chassis that incorporates an Intel Core i7-920XM Quad Core Extreme Edition processor and Nvidia Quadro graphics.

Optional Nvidia Quadro FX 1800M or Quadro FX 880M graphics renders 1GB of dedicated memory for large or highly textured models. The optional HD + sRGB LED 15.6” display lends 120% user-selectable color gamut support. Dell Precision ON technology is touted to provide almost instantaneous access to e-mail, contacts, calendar, virtual remote desktops and the web. It can run the Windows 7/Vista/XP 32/64-bit and Red Hat Linux 5.3 64-bit OS.

“The Dell Precision M4500 establishes new heights for performance and mobility for a workstation. This system provides the freedom to discover, create and imagine on your terms, wherever creativity takes you. Top that off with the assurance that you are backed by our robust ‘eco system’ of ISV partners and our ability to deliver the application performance you need to be productive…now that’s getting it done!,” trilled Greg Weir, senior manager, Dell Precision workstations.

Apart from being ideal for engineers, designers, animators and researchers, the M4500 is capable of accommodating defense needs including security, data encryption and authentication on-the-go. The workstation is compatible with a number of applications from ISV and comes with an optional 3MP camera, Gobi mobile broadband support with a multi-touch touchpad as also an SSD MiniCard for additional data storage. User-selectable thermal tables serve to keep the device cool and extend battery life.

The Dell Precision M4500 comes with security options like Dell ControlVault, FIPS fingerprint reader as well as a contactless smart card reader and is compatible with Dell’s E-Family accessories. It is also offered with service and support options such as Dell ProSupport and Dell ProManage. No word on the pricing has emerged as yet.
