Dell seems to be taking customization and purpose specific products onto an entirely new plane. The company has launched the Dell Latitude Z notebook custom designed for business use.

The 16” Latitude Z boasts of a 1600 x 900 resolution WLED display, EdgeTouch interface located on the device’s screen, multi-touch touchpad and silky-touch backlit keyboard. A 2MP camera engineered with Dell Capture technology enables scanning and saving business cards onto Microsoft Outlook contacts and copy documents. Users can lock out others from using the laptop by simply stepping away from the screen which automatically triggers the FaceAware Lock-Out intelligence feature.

Michael Keithley, CIO, Creative Artists Agency commented, “The Dell Latitude Z laptop combines a thin, lightweight design with full-featured functionality. With a two solid-state drive option, a built-in camera, microphone array, and a large, gorgeous screen, it has pretty much everything you could want from an all-in-one mobile laptop.”

A significant add-on to the Latitude Z, E4200 and E4300 is the Latitude ON function which renders instant connection to the web, mail, contacts and calendar enabled by its sub-processor and sub-operating system. It permits users access to POP, IMAP, Microsoft Exchange and Novell Groupwise and reads .doc, .ppt, .pdf as well as .xls files. Security features include support of VPN networks, a Citrix Receiver and password access. The system accepts an uppercase, lowercase, number and special character inclusive password only.

The notebook operates within WLAN, Bluetooth and optional 3G WWAN mobile broadband. The inch-thin Black Cherry finished device tips the scale at just 4.5 pounds and has a standard four-cell battery. Designer skins in the form of laptop bags designed by Cole Haan and Timbuck2 are also available for this device.

This travel-light product will retail at $1,999 (approx. Rs.95,417) in Europe, the US, Canada and Asia.
