250,000 OLPC XO Laptops for Indian markets

OLPC XO Laptop and Indian Flag After the $10 laptop debacle, the One Laptop Per Child project has stroked back in the news arena with the new agreement from the Indian Government. January last year, a report on a disagreement between India and OLPC project was all over the web. Now, a year’s gap has brought a lot of positive changes, being lucrative to both the Indian Government and the non-profitable foundation.

According to Art Technica, India has joined hands with the OLPC organization to bring 250,000 XO laptops for the students in 1,500 schools across the country. In words of PC World, who interviewed Satish Jha (the CEO of OLPC India), Jha hopes to send three million units to the country by this year.

The system will feature the VIA C7-M chipset, 1 GB memory and up to 4GB of onboard storage.

However, no time-frame has been revealed by the foundation and the Indian Government. We hope to see the contract fetching an affirmative outcome for education sectors throughout the nation.
