Samsung intros Enhanced 64GB SSD with Faster SATA II Interface

Samsung Flash SSD Samsung has announced that it has begun the mass production of its 64GB solid state drives (SSD) that comes with a new SATA II interface. It now claims that the drive can provide the highest performance rates in the industry for laptops.

The latest SSD has the ability to read data at 100 Mbps and write it at 80Mbps, boasting to be up to 60 percent faster than SATA I drives and five times higher in performance as compared to conventional hard disk drives (HDD).

Being lighter than HDD, SSD also consumes nearly 75 percent less power than HDD. It features single-level-cell NAND Flash memory and the ability to resist up to 15000Gs of shock in half millisecond compared to a shock resistance rating of 300Gs in 2ms for a typical HDD.

With no moving parts, Samsung’s 64GB SSD is noise-free and releases very little heat and even boast to be less susceptible to shocks and vibrations than traditional disk drives.

In selected Dell and Alienware notebooks, users will be offered the 64GB SATA II SSD as an optional feature. It will start shipping in this month.
