MacBook Air, the Thinnest Notebook Ever

Macworld has begun and on the very first day of the event, Apple launched its new and the world’s thinnest notebook called MacBook Air. According to Apple, the new notebook is 56 percent smaller than the previous models. The new notebook measures a groundbreaking maximum of 0.16-inches at its thinnest point, while its maximum height is just 0.76-inches.

The new MacBook incorporates a 13.3-inch LED-backlit widescreen display. The keyboard is also fully backlit. While the built-in iSight video camera makes formal and informal communication easy.

A 1.6 GHz or 1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 4MB L2 cache, 2GB of memory, an 80GB 1.8-inch hard drive, and the latest 802.11n Wi-Fi technology and Bluetooth 2.1 are some of the specifications of the new MacBook Air.

One USB 2.0 port, one headphone port and multi-touch TrackPad are the other features that Apple’s new notebook possesses.

Talking about the software the new MacBook Air is packed with iLife ’08 that includes iPhoto and iMovie. Further it is preinstalled with Leopard OS, which was launched last year.

“We’ve built the world’s thinnest notebook—without sacrificing a full-size keyboard or a full-size 13-inch display. When you first see MacBook Air, it’s hard to believe it’s a high-performance notebook with a full-size keyboard and display. But it is,” said Steve Jobs, CEO, Apple.

Moreover Apple claims that the new MacBook Air is energy sufficient and eco-friendly to some extent. The MacBook Air features the first mercury free LCD display. Apple claims that the new notebook is the least energy consuming notebook in MacBook family. Additionally the retail box of the MacBook Air is made from 100 percent post-consumer recycled material.

The new MacBook Air will start shipping in the US within two weeks and will be available at Apple Stores and other authorized resellers at $1,799 (around Rs. 70,637).
