Medison, the $150 Laptop Company, Holds Press Event to Suppress Scam Fears

PS3 80 GB The firm behind the $150 “Celebrity” laptop recently hit headlines but was subsequently debunked by online forums and blogs as a scam, has held a press conference in Sweden.

Medison’s managing director, Valdi Ivancic, and other staff members met with ten Swedish journalists to try and undo the damage caused by the claims which stated that the offer was too good to be true, even fraudulent.

Medison argued that there was nothing fake about the 150$ offer on the laptops and that they would start shipping on 15 August. They claimed to have received “thousands” of pre-orders.

The American company that handles their e-checkout has promised that no money will be withdrawn from a customer’s account before the product is shipped.

The renowned $150 product was on display and Ivancic responded to questions shooted by journalists about the product. He dismissed suggestions that it looked exactly the same as a Taiwanese manufacturer’s product.

When asked about the manufacturing partner, Ivancic refused to reveal any information and said, “Medison has a partnership with a manufacturer with whom I was in contact with as recently as last night. We have decided not to reveal which company it is, because it could damage their relationships with other companies. It has been said that it could ruin the market for part of our competition.”

It was further made known that an extra shipping charge of $150 will be levied, this fact was not made clear on the site. Furthermore, there was discussion as to how Medison could afford to charge such a low price. The maximum portion of the income is going to come from adverts on the site. Ivancic said that they would be charging about $15,000 for an advertisement spot on the site.

Towards the end of the conference, Valdi Ivancic apparently toyed with the credibility they may have gained from the press event by declaring an interest to run as Sweden’s prime minister. He said, “I have considered declaring my candidature for Prime Minister. As an independent … It sounds strange and ambitious, but nothing is impossible.”

All said and done, reassuring the world they are genuinely offering a $150 laptop might turn out to be a more daunting task than expected.
