Everex GOS Linux Laptops Priced under-$300 rolling out in 2008

Everex and Linux logo After introducing a $200 Linux desktop, Everex has announced the plan to introduce a Linux notebook PC that will run on the GOS version of operating system and will cost sub-$300.

Available in 12.1-inch and 17-inch screens, these new laptops will also come with built-in Ubuntu Linux 7.10, one-click access to websites like Facebook and multiple Google Web applications.

You can also expect features such as easy access to free web based services to lessen the reliance on software based products.

“The intent of GOS is to take Linux to the consumer and do what Steve Jobs did with Mac OS X – to take an alternative OS and package it for the consumer. Linux has come a long way and could grab an audience in the low-end market,” said David Liu, founder of GOS.

Interestingly, this GOS is more about ecosystem of applications that can work. GOS bundles applications in a coherent way that makes the OS easy to use, mentioned Liu.

GOS Linux brings familiar Google icons and applications to users, which earlier PCs didn’t have.
