As rains rush in to splash off those sweaty brows, tech enthusiasts begin the hunt to find newer ways to safeguard their devices from this seeping intruder. This month witnessed showers of tech imbued gadgets, while the Indian terrain was overwhelmed with umpteen handset options that entered store shelves from Dell, HTC, Nokia and Maxx Mobiles. Device categories geared up to fancy users in most sects of tech society and the ones that stood apart for others have made it to the Gadgets of the Month for June 2011.

Adding to the tablet palette in India, RIM unleashed its much anticipated BlackBerry Playbook. The device was introduced at an event held in Mumbai with a unique invite and the presence of Bollywood actor Salman Khan. The Playbook has been outfitted with a 7-inch WSVGA LCD multitouch screen and fuelled by 1GHz Dual Core processor alongside 1080p support. It runs on OS 5.0 or higher via a secure Bluetooth connection.

Amidst a host of handsets, the much talked about seems the Nokia N9 smartphone. Fitted with a 3.9-inch touchscreen, the highlight of the device seems its swipe feature that takes one directly to the home page. With a polycarbonate body that promises to provide better antenna performance, its spec sheet also includes 8MP camera with Carl Zeiss autofocus, HD support and 16:9 widescreen format. Not to forget the incorporated Dolby headphone post-processing technology and support for Near Field Communication (NFC).

The start of the month saw Dell put forth its new Inspiron R series with new 14- and 15-inch laptops. This series touts to elevate users’ style quotient with 10 new rejuvenating lids from Switch by Design Studio. Running on Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium, it supports USB 3.0 technology and several other tech attributes in a sleek package.

It wasn’t just Dell showcasing its new notebooks, Sony plunged in with new E series laptops. These VAIO machines are available in 14, 15.5 and 17.3 inches with vivid color options. A fingerprint resistant lid, sport textured touchpads and edge-to-edge isolated keyboards add to the feature list. The keyboard also embeds Web and Vaio care buttons. Select models come with Intel Wireless Display technology and Remote Keyboard.

KMI Softstep Keyword, a foot controlled computer marched into the techvilla this month. This innovative creation could benefit many, says its manufacturer. It is pressure as well as location sensitive with the capability to remember around 100 commands. Tipping the scale at about a pound, the blue backlight enables the user to control the device even at night.

We saw Joby augment its accessory range for the iPad 2 lately. The Joby GorillaMobile Ori and Yogi were unleashed for Apple’s dainty device. The Yogi equips modular legs that offer enough flexibility to place the device on uneven surfaces while the Ori can be folded in varying positions to be tucked into a bag.

This is all that managed to entice us in the first month of monsoon. Hope to see some more interesting gadgets gush in the coming months.
