Top Gadgets of the Month: January 2010

We begin the top gadgets of the month by quoting a saying that is certainly apt for this new year; ‘Out with the old and in with the new.’ Yes, as we enter into 2010, we look forward to new gadgets taking center stage and guess what, January didn’t disappoint us on that front. The month already saw a plethora of delicious devices and glossy gadgets making their way onto the scene.
January was also witness to the much-awaited international Consumer Electronics Show which was held in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event took place from January 7-10, 2010 and in that span of four days, attendees were treated to a buffet of gadgets proffered by various companies. Those who could not make it to the event could also enjoy all the products and devices showcased at the CES as we gave them the specs of all the offerings on a platter. For all those who didn’t spy these news items, fret not! We have included some of the noteworthy products that made a hit at the CES as well as other gadgets that entered the market with a bang this January.
The CES 2010 was graced by the likes of Casio who brought to the forefront an array of mercury-free high-brightness projectors. These offerings are noted to fall under the company’s Green Slim projector line-up. Some of the models that were outed by the company included the XJ-A255, XJ-A250, XJ-A245, XJ-A240, XJ-A155, XJ-A150, XJ-A145, XJ-A140 and the XJ-A130 data projectors. These devices use LED hybrid light sources and laser in order to provide 2000 to 3000 lumens of brightness. The projectors are packed with many specific features with some having the ability to deliver WXGA Real displays at 1280 x 800 dots in a 16:10 ratio. Some projectors can work without a PC while others can even communicate wirelessly with PCs.
Among the other companies that made their way to the CES, ViewSonic hit the event with its extensive product line-up ranging from televisions to laptops, PCs and even digital photo frames. While on the topic of environmentally friendly products, the event especially bore witness to its brand new collection of ViewLED eco-friendly LED TVs. These offerings range from 19 inches to 42 inches and bring Full HD as well as brilliant entertainment to any room. The mercury-free LED TVs presented at the CES includes the 42-inch VT4200LED TV, 32-inch VT3200LED, 23-inch VT2300LED and 18.5-inch VT1900LED. These products seem to be aptly priced for the HD entertainment they provide.
Lenovo hit the CES this year with its latest product dubbed as the Skylight. This device is known to be the world’s first smartphone-netbook amalgamated offering. The ARM-based Qualcomm device lets users always acquire a connected mobile internet experience. The gadget sports a smooth and slender design as well as a long lasting battery life, strong wireless connectivity and custom interface.
Coming away from the CES 2010, we see the market being bombarded with loads of camera and camcorder offerings of which the Sony Cyber-shot W and T series digital cameras stand out among the array. Photograph enthusiasts can snap all their desired pictures with the series that comprises of the DSC-TX7, DSC-TX1, W310, W320, W350, W360, W370, W380 and WX1. The digital cameras include various features that would make taking out pictures a real snap! Sony also brings to the forefront its new mobile phone christened as the Sony Ericsson Vivaz. This offering sports a 3.2 inch 16:9 touchscreen which displays 16,777,216 colors and offers resolutions of 640 x 360p nHD. Loads of photos, music and data of up to 75MB can be accommodated in the mobile phone memory. The handset measures 107mm x 521.7mm x 12.5mm and weighs just 97g.
We finally conclude this segment by mentioning the My Book 3.0 desktop external hard drive from Western Digital. The device boasts of a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface. This external drive is capable of storing 1TB worth of content with a 2TB model soon on its way. It offers transfer speeds of around ten times faster when pitted against USB 2.0.
