Sony SMP-N200 Streaming Player

The SMP-N200 Streaming Player, which claims to convert any television into a smart TV, was recently launched by Sony. The new streaming player equips features like 3D and live content streaming which were not available in models of the earlier generation.

The Sony SMP-N200 set-top box provides a range of connectivity options such as composite, component, HDMI and Wi-Fi. They let users upgrade any TV to a connected television in a matter of a few seconds. Users are enabled to enjoy movies, TV shows, videos and photos on the big screen in lieu of a PC monitor or listen to music on-demand via a home speaker system merely with a few clicks of the remote control.

Charles Speidel, vice president of Sony’s Home Audio and Video Group said, “The Streaming Player is ideal for consumers who want to upgrade to a connected television, but are happy with the TV they currently have. Whether using it in the family room or on a secondary television in the house this new set-top-box offers access to the full complement of streaming content available from Sony, without committing to the cost of a new Bravia.”

The compact second-generation streaming player uses the company’s new technology to enhance the performance of streaming content on TVs. It offers users a wide collection of online movies in HD and 3D along with internet radio options.

Featuring DLNA capability, the set-top box allows users to connect and control a network of devices for enjoying audio and video stored on other devices such as a PC or tablet. The device is accompanied by a remote control and a free download of the Sony Media Remote app available for iOS and Android devices. The application lets users control the device through their smartphones.

Declared last month at IFA in Berlin, the Sony SMP-N200 Streaming Player will start retailing from October for a price of $99.99 (approx. Rs. 4,782).
