Smellit device will come to life at Lisbon Design Show

Smellit

Designed in an effort to enliven the fourth dimension in home entertainment and video gaming, the Smellit device will debut at the Lisbon Design Show 2011. This gadget is responsible for presenting the experience of aroma, or mere smell in some cases, during a session of home entertainment or video gaming.

Understanding the potency of the sense of smell, the concept of 4D has been supported by many from all over the industry. But the efforts never seemed to have taken off as much as entertainment buffs would have liked it to. The work mechanism of Smellit has not yet been revealed or explained completely. Thus, the effect it might really have is under the scanner for now, though that does not diminish hopes for the emerging technology.

This gadget is developed by Nuno Teixeira, with support from Behance. The production process is being looked after by French manufacturing company, Olf-action. The company also already has a scent related product called Odoravision in the market. Also, a comparatively smaller and similar product called ScentScape also made it to the news a while ago for its ability for emit perfumes when connected to the PC.

If the this device works out as expected, a little peek into what it should present to prospective users puts forth a list of aromas which can be emanated. It includes some interesting mentions like the Smell of the Good Mood, Bad Smells, Odor Campaign, and more along with others like African Ambience, Oriental Atmosphere, Smell of Rose, Smell of Gasoline Burned and so on.

The Smellit device will be exhibited at the Lisbon Design Show from October 11 to 16, 2011.
