KDDI to deploy Motorola VIP2060 HD IPTV set top box for FTTH subscribers

KDDI plans to introduce the Motorola’s VIP2060 HD IPTV set-top box to its FTTH customers across Japan next month. The device comes with an in-built 500GB HDD that lends support to DVR functionality and will be launched as the HD-STB for KDDI’s ‘au Hikari’ service that accommodates 1GB/s high-speed optical fiber broadband connections.

The quad tuner integrated in the device allows users to record IPTV programs, terrestrial and satellite BS/110CS broadcast services through an external antenna that supports ISDB-T and ISDB-S Japanese broadcasting standards. In addition to this, users are provided with a wide-ranging package of advanced media capabilities comprising of time-shifted viewing and simultaneous recording. It will also permit users to transcode MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC video. Besides this, users will be offered delayed playback, trick play DVR capabilities.

Users are delivered a wide-ranging package of media capabilities comprising of time-shifted viewing and simultaneous recording. It lets users transcode MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 AVC video. Besides this, users will be offered delayed playback and trick play DVR capabilities. The set-top box provides video on demand and music capabilities that permits users to transfer content onto their mobile devices. Moreover, the set-top box is attributed with EPG to enable KDDI’s IPTV programming with which users can navigate the channels or search programs and schedule recordings of shows.

The HD-STB will be available in Japan from June 2. The price of the device has not been given a clear mention as yet.
