Viewing cinema-like 3D quality videos at home can be enriching. But large-sized equipments offering such a visual treat could be a problem. If that’s the case, then Sony seems to have caught the right nerve. The electronics manufacturer has designed surround audio systems namely the HT-AS5, the HT-AF5 and the BDV-470SS which occupy lesser space while permeating superior acoustic experience.

Together with Sony Pictures Entertainment, the company has developed Digital Cinema Sound processing for these systems. Along with auto calibration, it delivers precise and engrossing entertainment to customers. Embedded with three HDMI inputs, these devices allow 3D pass-through and feature 1000 watts of S-Master digital amplification which has been instilled in their subwoofers. This allows users to easily adjust the audio output as the subwoofers offer central control.

The three surround sound systems are implanted with two optical/one coaxial digital input for set-top boxes and game consoles. The 7.1-channel LPCM from Blu-ray players has been incorporated as well. Sony Bravia customers can use the Bravia sync feature to integrate the control of their full home theatre system into a single handset. They can also modify sound settings with the Home Theatre Control Bravia Internet Widget. This will allow the viewer to manage the sound system by adjusting the settings displayed onscreen.

The slender and compact HT-AS5 comprises four speakers in total for front and rear channels. Its subwoofer houses not only the 1000W S-Master amplification but also FM RDS/AM radio tuner. Enabled with identical features, the HT-AF5 is a pair of floorstanding front speakers for the left and right channels. They come with floorstands but can also be mounted on the wall. Ideal for spacious rooms, this will help create theatre-like atmosphere.

All three systems have been embedded with one HDMI output. This capacitates Audio Return Channel to deliver TV’s internal tuner via the surround system, reducing excessive cable requirement. In addition, it not only offers superior experience when viewing but also while setting-up the environment. By downloading an app on their iPod Touch or iPhone, users can control playback functions over the home network.

The BDV-470SS has been touted as an all-in-one home cinema structure. Combining the HT-AS5 and the BDP-S470 3D Blu-ray Disc players, the system can be directly connected to a television set to enjoy a wholesome experience without additional devices. Bravia customers can stream music, video and online TV shows with the Bravia Internet Video platform. They can also surf the internet or transfer content from their computing devices using DLNA. The system also supports USB drives and thus allows users to access content stored on their flash drives or external hard disks.

The HT-AS5, HT-AF5 and BDV-470SS are now available in the market. Their pricing details have not been disclosed yet.
