LXE revamps MX8 Rugged Handheld Computer with Windows Mobile 6.1 OS

LXE MX8 Rugged Handheld Computer LXE upgrades the MX8 rugged handheld computer with the incorporation of the Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system. Previously, the device ran on Windows CE 5.0. Now, the company plans to offer both the versions of the MX8 to consumers.

It is touted to be the company’s ergonomic and lightweight handheld computer that boasts a rugged design yet cost-effective. Designed for a variety of light industrial and supply-chain environments, the main purpose of this compact device is data collection, enabling users to develop and run their applications with ease.

Steve Newell, LXE’s general manager, mentioned, “The MX8 handheld computer powered with Windows Mobile will extend LXE’s reach into new applications and markets. We have seen growing sales of the product in the pharmaceutical and retail markets among others, due to its size, ergonomic design and voice capabilities. This computer was designed for scan-intensive or multi-modal voice applications. As such, we believe sales of the MX8 handheld computer will continue to increase with this expanded functionality.”

It features two keyboard options such as alpha-mode numeric and numeric triple-tap alpha, backlit keys and a 2.8-inch (240×320) QVGA TFT color LCD display, 802.11b/g, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR radio. Scanning options are also included for users to access standard-range laser scanner, 1D and 2D imagers.

Measuring 7.6″x 2.8″x 1.8″ and weighing 377g, the RoHS-compliant handheld computer has ToughTalk technology that supports advanced audio circuitry and noise-canceling techniques for multiple voice logistics applications.

However, there is no clarity on the price and availability details of the MX8 rugged handheld computer that runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system.
