Sharp Willcom D4 – the World’s First Intel Atom Mobile Internet Device Introduced

Sharp Willcom D4 Here’s the world’s first mobile internet device that runs on Intel’s Atom processor. Sharp has launched Willcom D4 which is powered by Intel Centrino Atom microprocessors at the speed of 1.3-GHz and runs on Microsoft’s Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 operating system.

Measuring just 188 x 84 x 25.9mm and weighing 470grams, the tiny device can be tilted and users can slide it too as and when required. It includes features such as 5-inch touchscreen with 262k color LED-backlit and 1,024 x 600 pixel of resolution with a 64-key QWERTY keyboard.

Besides, the Sharp Willcom D4 mobile internet device comes bundled with:

  • 1GB of memory
  • A 1.8-inch 40GB disk
  • A 2 megapixel camera
  • Bluetooth 2.0+EDR
  • Support for microSD slot
  • HD audio codec with mono-speaker
  • 802.11b/g WiFi
  • The gadget is also compatible with Willcom’s PHS (Personal Handyphone System) network and WANSEGU Digital TV Tuner.

    Expected to hit the Japanese market in June 2008, the Sharp Willcom D4 mobile internet device will be priced at ¥128,600 (approx. Rs. 50,160) with a 2-year contract.

      This is the best UMPC so far! Finally a pocket laptop! It only took the market what years to realize thumb input and pen input is for geeks.

      I just found out Conics.net and several others are selling it outiside of Japan! Make sure to get the extended battery to enable 4-5 hours of use.
