Garmin nüvi 885T Navigator

Garmin unveiled its latest nüvi 885T navigator at CES 2009.

The main highlights of the portable navigator are the inclusion of lane assist with junction view, support for MSN Direct to access dynamic content with voice-activated function.

Users can get details of road sign and arrows indicating the proper lane for navigation. They can even collect exact information on latitude, longitude, coordinates, closest hospitals, police stations, gas stations, nearest address and intersection by just speaking ‘where am I?’.

“Combining two of Garmin’s most popular features – speech recognition and lane assist with junction view – the nüvi 885T lets drivers keep both hands on the wheel and takes the guesswork out of navigation,” briefed Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “And with enhanced MSN Direct services, the nüvi 885T provides much-needed travel information like traffic updates, flight status, Doppler radar, gas prices, news and business headlines and a wireless ‘send to GPS’ capability.”

The Garmin nüvi 885T also bundles Garmin’s speech recognition technology and a push-to-talk wireless remote to seamlessly program the GPS device by speaking words that match the buttons on the 4.3-inch touchscreen display (480X272 pixels). It is compatible with American English, British English, European French, European Spanish, German, Italian and Netherlands Dutch languages.

Moreover, the GPS unit also allows users to tag the photo with the location by Garmin Connect Photos that integrates millions of geo-located photos from Google’s Panoramio photo sharing community. Besides, the nüvi 885T also features USB 2.0 High Speed connectivity, front-firing speakers, Bluetooth for hands-free calling, FM to send audio through the car stereo and traffic updates, turn-by-turn directions and street names, MP3s and audio books, and removable lithium-ion battery. It also comes preloaded with maps of the US, Canada and Puerto Rico.

From the MSN Direct network, the Garmin nüvi 885T navigator has the ability to show flight status, weather forecasts, traffic conditions, fuel prices, enhanced movie listings, local event, News and Stocks information.

Additionally, the GPS system also integrates Garmin’s HotFix feature to deliver faster satellite prediction by automatically calculating and storing critical satellite updates.

The Garmin nüvi 855T navigator can be purchased from Q1 2009 for an estimated price of $799.99 (approx. Rs. 38,855).
