Garmin announced to introduce its latest personal navigator series called nuvi 500.The new GPS range combine cutting edge navigation features with outdoor recreation navigation capabilities.

The Garmin nüvi 500 sports a multi-mode feature which allows users to shift between various automotive modes such as driving, bicycling, boating or walking mode with just one touch. This line-up is pre-installed routing capabilities, improved mapping and water-proof hardware that enable owners to have a safe traveling experience. It is now an easy task to change the GPS unit into different modes through the indicator placed on the top of the home screen.

“This multi-mode nüvi is the ultimate device for those seeking portable navigation in the car and in the great outdoors. This product allows us to combine features from several of our most popular automotive and outdoor navigators into one compact unit. From weekend trips to the lake, to a hike around the trail, nüvi 500 is ideal for people seeking automotive and recreational navigation in one dynamic device,” mentioned Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales.

Along with pre-loaded US maps, the nüvi 500 also employs turn-by-turn directions, ability to download geocaches from Geocaching.com, a 3.5-inch water-proof touchscreen, and Garmin Connect Photos to choose from millions of geo-located photos for easy-navigation on land and water.

By using the Where Am I feature, users will be able to see the exact location by just a tap on the screen. Users will also find optional BlueChart g2 Vision and Inland Lake Vision marine cartography for accessing detailed chart-specific information, spot soundings, intertidal zones, wrecks, port plans, and restricted areas amongst others.

Use the Historic Route 66 map guide developed by MAD MAPS for a scenic road trip, wherein users will get to take advantage of route spans from Chicago to Los Angeles. The Garmin nüvi 500 also has the ability to highlight specific points of interest associated with Route 66 along the way.

In addition, consumers will also have the freedom to utilize pre-installed detailed street and topographic mapping for the lower 48 U.S. states, Hawaii and Puerto Rico as well as comprehensive street map coverage of the U.S. and Canada. On using the model with an optional receiver, consumers will be entitled to receive important updated information, including traffic conditions, fuel prices, weather reports, movie listings, headline news, stock updates and local events, from Traffic Message Channel or MSN Direct.

Garmin also packs a compass page, track log and a removable, rechargeable battery with the multi-mode nüvi 500 series of GPS navigator. Price and availability is not yet confirmed.
