Bushnell uses DigitalGlobe Satellite Images for ONIX GPS devices

Bushnell & DigitalGlobe logo and GPS unit Bushnell and DigitalGlobe have announced their collaboration to enhance the utility of Bushnell’s GPS devices such as ONIX200, next-generation ONIX200CR and ONIX400 through DigitalGlobe’s vast library of satellite imagery.

DigitalGlobe is the world’s highest-resolution imagery and geospatial information products company in the mobile industry.

This partnership will provide Bushnell buyers to experience more accurate and realistic understanding of their location and the geography of their surroundings. The imagery, part of the Bushnell multi-faceted interface, combines layers of various data to offer a safe, useful and engaging outdoor experience.

“We want to give our outdoor enthusiasts the best imagery available,” said Joe Messner, CEO of Bushnell Outdoor Products. “DigitalGlobe has the highest-resolution imagery on the market, so they were the clear choice to power the imagery on our products.”

DigitalGlobe provides an extension of the DigitalGlobe’s ImageAtlas product that offers instant online access to the world’s largest aerial and satellite image library.

“By supplying the imagery supporting Bushnell devices, DigitalGlobe continues to build on its reputation as the go-to source for the imagery in this rapidly growing industry,” said Marc Tremblay, vice president and general manager of DigitalGlobe’s commercial business unit. “We look forward to expanding our footprint in this market and facilitating solutions that make accessing imagery easier. At the same time, we are always proactively seeking partners who will help us bring imagery to the general consumer.”

The images are not pre-loaded onto the GPS device. The owners of the GPS device are offered an option to self-locate by downloading a satellite image on the Bushnell website that is instantly calibrated for their precise location and navigational needs. Through a user-friendly interface that makes use of a unique screen layering feature, the image is viewable on the GPS device.

The ONIX GPS systems have the ability to layer a satellite image, aerial photo or topographic map, plus navigational aids in perfect harmony on a single screen.

You can get access to download maps or photos for $1 (approx. Rs. 41) each, $20 (approx. Rs. 800) for 25 credits or $79 (approx. Rs. 3200) for unlimited downloads for one year.
