Sony sells 50 Million PSP units across the Globe

Sony PSP Logo The very popular PlayStation Portable has escalated Sony’s position to Cloud Number 9 by attaining a selling mark of 50 million units, worldwide. Sony has announced that the first handheld platform from the PlayStation family has reached the 50 million mark worldwide, in terms of sales.

Started with the PSP-1000, there were basic features in the console for gamers to play while on the go. Later, the company enhanced the portable gaming console with slim and light form factor and incorporation of Skype for enhanced entertainment. Further, they advanced it to the next level with the PSP-3000 series that featured a 4.3-inch wide, high resolution LCD screen and a built-in microphone without compromising on the design and size. These series of improvements have contributed in achieving a high sell-in mark.

Another aspect that has contributed in the success of Sony PSP is the range of software titles in various genres and games that are available for download from PlayStation Store. At present, there are more than 500 titles from PlayStation Network exclusive games, Game Archive titles featuring the original PlayStation games, and downloadable version of UMD titles.

Sony PSP made its debut in December 2004 in Japan, March 2005 in North America, May 2005 in Asian countries and regions, and September 2005 in Europe/PAL territories.
