E3 2008: New Sony 80GB PS3, PS2 Bundle and PSP Pack Unveiled

Sony PlayStation logos Sony is working hard on enhancing its console games line up. At E3 2008, Sony announced a wide range of advancement. In brief, Sony has raised the curtain on a 80 GB PS3 model, Ratchet and Clank Size Matters PSP Entertainment Pack, and limited-edition LEGO Batman: The Videogame PS2 Pack.

Starting with PS3, the company has upgraded the videogame console and introduced a 80 GB version that supports all the essential functionalities of the 40 GB models. Apart from accommodating movies, photos and other entertainment content, the latest version also features a Blu-ray player, HDMI output, an integrated Wi-Fi connection, Cell Broadband Engine. It also sports over 140 exclusive and third-party games and the PlayStation Network (PSN).

The company has also leveled up the PSP arena by launching the new Ratchet and Clank Size Matters PSP Entertainment Pack. Bundled with silver PSP system, this limited edition device is packed with Ratchet and Clank Size Matters – a blockbuster movie on UMD (Universal Media Disc), a 1GB Memory Stick PRO Duo and a PN voucher to download the innovative puzzle game echochrome from the PlayStation Store.

After PS3 and PSP, Sony has also unveiled the limited-edition LEGO Batman: The Videogame PlayStation 2 Pack. In this bundle, the most awaited TT Games/Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment title LEGO Batman: The Videogame, Warner Home Video’s Justice League: The New Frontier on DVD and a PS 2 system. Besides, SCEA has also planned to launch over 130 new games for PS 2 console this year.

According to Jack Tretton, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, “It’s undeniable we have three successful platforms, the broadest and best line-up of some of the biggest exclusives in the business, and are continuing to deliver compelling and original content to our consumers. Expect to see continued momentum this year as we remain focused on delivering products and services that extend the strength of our brand and reaffirms PlayStation’s place at the center of consumers’ homes.”

The 80GB PS3 console will retail for $399 (approx. Rs. 17,212) and will be available in September 2008, the Clank Size Matters PSP Entertainment Pack is slated to hit the stores by October 2008 for $199.99 (approx. Rs. 8,627) and the limited-edition LEGO Batman: The Videogame PlayStation 2 Pack will cost $149.99 (approx. Rs. 6,469).

Additionally, the company previewed more than 140 first and third-party games at E3 with over 50 games, game packs and add-on. This year is unquestionably going to be a lucrative business for Sony.
