Creative Gigaworks T3 Speakers Reviewed
We bring to you a hands-on review of the full fledged Creative Gigaworks T3 speakers designed especially for PCs. In modern-day homes, PCs have almost replaced music systems. Thus keeping in mind how often a PC has to double up as a music player, Creative has put in special efforts to improve the quality of music offered by PC speakers. We’ll start by saying that the results reflect in the sound quality delivered by the Gigaworks T3 speakers.

The Creative Gigaworks T3 is a 2.1-channel PC speaker. This system incorporates a subwoofer, a volume controller and two satellite speakers. The small cube speakers are perched on a thin stick-like stand that rests on a flat square base. The satellite speakers measure 5.9” (H) x 3.0” (W) x 3.7” (D). The net that covers the satellite speakers can be easily removed and cleaned but a small dent between the stand and the cube speakers gave us a tough time while cleaning. The wire that connects the speakers to the subwoofer is firmly attached to the stand. This eliminates the option of changing the wiring. Moreover, it compels us to change the satellite speaker if the wiring breaks or gets damaged. Considering the amount that the company charges for this system, we assume that easily changeable wiring isn’t much of a demand.
The Slam Subwoofer doubles up as a hub for the other components. The subwoofer weighs approximately 13 pounds with dimensions of 8.4 (H) x 9.3 (W) x 11.3 (D) inches. All the ports are too close to each other, creating visible clutter of wires which we found to be quite messy. Starting from left, the first port connects to the power source via a figure-eight power cable. The next two ports connect the subwoofer to the satellite speakers. The fourth port connects the volume controller. The last two ports connect the Slam Subwoofer to devices such as laptop, PC, TV or gaming console. However, the T3 doesn’t bundle up all the wires that are needed to connect to these sources. Well, we would appreciate if a single port could connect the woofer to the PC.

The subwoofer also has a notch called the bass controller. The bass controller provides three bass levels- low, medium and high. The speakers deliver excellent sound quality with the bass turned on full. But, the songs played with full bass had our desks trembling and windows rattling.
The quality of music surely had our feet tapping to its tune. The sound effects from movies and games seem almost life-like on this system. At zero bass level, the system works like any normal Creative speaker.
The volume controller is circular in shape and exhibits a power LED indicator and two ports. The top of the controller rotates smoothly to adjust the volume level. The design of the controller is quite fascinating and easy to use. One of the ports connects the headphones to the systems. The volume level needs to be adjusted above fifty percent to be audible over the headphones. Moreover, the bass levels can hardly be differentiated.
The second port is an aux-in port that assists in connecting various portable media players including iPods, iPhones, PMPs, laptop or any other device with a standard 3.5mm jack. The controller also houses a blue LED indicator. This power LED is illuminated till the volume level is above minimum. The LED light turns off when the volume level is set to minimum and the speakers switch to a low power standby mode. This eliminates the need for an on/off switch.
The Creative Gigaworks T3 complies with the Energy star specifications. The instruction guide of the system states that it complies with the limits for a class B digital device, as per the FCC rules. The company has also placed the State of California Proposition 65 on the guide. The levels of the harmful chemicals are well below the level of exposure.
Overall, the Creative Gigaworks T3 does provide what it promises. Although a pretty neat and space saving design, the satellite speakers do feature slots for further improvement. The bass and music clarity are remarkably good. Ignoring a few flaws, the T3 is certainly an option worth considering. We would like to rate it a full 8 on 10. The Creative Gigaworks T3 can be purchased for Rs. 16,699.
