Samsung 46-inch transparent LCD panel announced
The transparent display segment will soon boast of a new addition in the form of the Samsung 46-inch transparent LCD panel. It is slated to enter mass production before the end of this month.
This LCD panel features 70 percent color gamut and offers contrast ratio of 4,500:1. The 46-inch panel can project high definition visuals in 1366 x 768p resolution. This panel was showcased at the CES by the company. It can be used in a number of different ways. Currently, it is being produced for retail display applications which are inclusive of product showcases, platform doors of subway stations for regions like North America, Asia and Europe as well as commercial freezer doors.
“Transparent panels, an exciting application of next-generation display technology, have unlimited potential to change our viewing habits over the next several years. As a strong supporter of the transparent display market, Samsung plans to develop this technology into a new growth engine for our LCD business,” commented Younghwan Park, senior vice president of LCD marketing, Device Solutions, Samsung Electronics.
Some other applications of the transparent LCD panel are information windows, e-signage, medical equipments, e-boards and also mobile devices. Samsung previously released the 22-inch transparent LCD panel which has been commercialized for use in mobile devices, luxury goods and jewellery sectors. Its improved display quality along with the compact size are said to be its key highlights. Also, this panel claims to conserve energy by consuming low power for its operation.
Although, the Samsung 46-inch transparent LCD panel will be mass produced this month, its price and availability details have not been revealed by the company.
