Android Honeycomb ported to B&N Nook Color

Android has been widely accepted by mobile phones and tablets alike. The latest buzz of Google’s operating system is its newest version codenamed Honeycomb. This year may witness several tablets running on Android 2.3 like the Motorola Xoom.

The company is all set to reveal the Android 2.3 (Honeycomb) at an event slated for February 2, 2011. However, those who can’t wait that long can now preview the Android 2.3 version ported on the B&N Nook through a video displayed on xda-developers, reports Engadget.

The site reveals, “graphics acceleration more or less working. The SGX driver seems too old for some buffer request of android 3.0, so right now the statusbar is invisible but still functional. Not sure if I can fix that or have to wait for the AOSP release.”

However, most of the core functions were seen missing. Apparently, porting Honeycomb onto Nook could elevate its performance as this OS has been designed to work on tablet-level.
