Velocity Micro reveals upcoming Cruz e-readers

While Android powered mobile phones continue to deck technology shelves in increasing numbers, Velocity Micro has announced the upcoming launch of the Cruz Tablet, Cruz Reader and Cruz StoryPad e-readers. Both devices run the Android OS and feature touch-sensitive displays.
The sleek Cruz Reader flaunts a 7” color touchscreen exhibiting resolutions of 800 x 600p and an aspect ratio of 4:3. This 802.11b/g Wi-Fi enabled device supports web browsing and integrates high quality audio playback capability. Apart from including an accelerometer, the e-reader comes a USB and SD card slot as well as a 2GB SD card.
“Since 1992, Velocity Micro has been dedicated to building remarkable consumer electronics,” explained Randy Copeland, President and CEO of Velocity Micro. “With the development of the Cruz line, we were able to take those enthusiast sensibilities and package them for the mainstream consumer to create a product that’s not only amazing, but affordable as well.”
Users can access more than 2 million e-books through the in-built Borders e-book library portal app. The device is powered by a battery that lasts for about 10 hours of usage or more than 24 hours of standby time. Additionally, it allows owners to download an array of apps, videos and magazines thanks to its Cruz Market accessibility. It measures about 0.5” thick and weighs less than a pound.
Owners can view a host of multimedia content available over the internet on the 7” touchscreen display of the Cruz Tablet. Apart from displaying visuals in 800 x 480p resolutions, the screen exhibits an aspect ratio which is calculated at 16:9. This variant shares most of its features with the Cruz Reader except for its 4GB built-in memory accompanied by an 8GB SD card which comes bundled with the pack.
Exposing children to an interactive and simple learning experience, the Cruz StoryPad is attributed with a full color 7” touch display. It exhibits content in 800 x 600p resolutions, and the aspect ratio of the screen amounts to 4:3. Additionally, it integrates an instinctive navigational interface and comes pre-loaded with audio books and classic stories. The gadget is provided with an SD card for extra storage and comes in the colors pink, blue or green.
The Cruz StoryPad and Cruz Reader can be expected to hit stores next month. The Cruz Tablet will be available from September 1 this year. The Cruz Reader is priced at $199 (approx. Rs. 9,290), while the Cruz Tablet can be picked up for $299 (approx. Rs. 13,960). Velocity Micro has priced the Cruz StoryPad at $149 (approx. Rs. 6,960).
