Sony reveals new PVM-740 professional field monitor

Taking the word ‘technology’ in a whole new direction, Sony has recently slid the covers off a new portable monitor christened the PVM-740. Claimed to be the first field display to use an Organic Light-Emitting Diode, the 7.4-inch high-resolution (960 x 540 pixels) device can fit a range of professional monitoring applications, including studio editing, ENG and EFT production, OB trucks, and even research and development.

Emerging as ideal for use in 3D camera rigs with its flip mode, the new portable monitor produces smooth gradation from the dark to the bright portions of image scenes such as a sunrise or a sunset. The PVM-740 ensures to topple simply unprecedented high-contrast images.

The device can flip a picture horizontally or vertically without frame delay, making it useful during 3D image acquisition using a 3D rig camera with a pair of 2D monitors. Users can now connect the offering to the camera systems directly without the need for an external signal converter.

Apart from this, the gear comes equipped with Sony’s distinctive feed-back circuit system that significantly monitors the emitted lights all the time, adjusts the white balance, and ensures color and gamma consistency. A unique native scan function generates images without changing the input signal’s pixel count – mapping the pixel of the input on the panel pixel-to-pixel.

The new PVM-740 boasts of the standard interface connectors: a composite video, a 3G/HD/SD-SDI, and an HDMI interface. Further, its HDMI connectivity expands the monitor’s potential applications.

The Sony PVM-740 monitor is anticipated to be available from this month.
