Though manufacturers haven’t come up with a more inventive name for digital photo frames, it shouldn’t stop anyone from believing that these gizmos can do anything more than display pictures. Sony has announced that their new S-Frame digital photo frames including the DPF-XR100, DPF-VR100, DPF-D830, DPF-A710, DPF-D710, DPF-D810, DPF-D75, DPF-D820, DPF-D1010, DPF-D95 and DPF-D1020 aren’t just for keeping those unforgettable memories close at hand.

The D830 is Sony’s first ever battery-operated digital photo frame. The integrated rechargeable battery powering this device can display photos for approximately 100 minutes on a single charge. It features an 8” SVGA LED backlight LCD screen, while the XR100 has been attributed with TruBlack technology to cut down on reflection and render more natural color tones to images being displayed.

“Our new digital photo frames offer consumers a variety of options for showing off their favorite images and now video in any room of the house or at the office,” commented Koba Kobayashi, director of the digital imaging accessory business at Sony Electronics. “Sporting the styling, innovations and intelligent features of our Cyber-shot cameras and Bravia LCD HDTVs, these frames give consumers a way to showcase their photos and videos conveniently and with amazing quality and clarity.”

The XR100 and VR100 are equipped with 10.2” high-resolution WSVGA LED backlight LCDs supported by image processors which deliver content in resolutions of up to 256 megapixels. The frames incorporate an alarm mode, Sweep Panorama playback and stereo audio. The 2GB of onboard storage offered by the D830, XR100 and VR100 can be expanded with the auto-resizing function that downsizes photos. MP3 files may be copied to the internal memory and the frames come with three pre-loaded MP3 songs.

Each of Sony’s new S-Frame offerings extends slide show variations, an auto orientation sensor, index modes for previewing images, clock and calendar views and user-adjustable auto power on/off settings. All variants lend support to JPEG and RAW image file formats. The photo frames accommodate a number of media cards such as MS Pro, MS Pro Duo, MMC, SD and SDHC cards. Users have the option of transferring images to the frames from a PC via an optional USB cable.

The DPF-A710, DPF-D710, DPF-D810, DPF-D820, DPF-D1010 and DPF-D1020 will be out in next month for $70 (approx. Rs. 3,250), $80 (approx. Rs. 3,715), $100 (approx. Rs. 4,600), $120 (approx.
