iRex rolls out DR800SG e-Book Reader

iRex DR800SG e-Book Reader E-book readers are increasingly replacing the traditionally printed books and journals. New and improved e-books are entering the market at regular interval. And iRex has made its contribution to the already long list of e-books. The company has now officially announced its earlier rumored e-Book reader and has termed it the iRex DR800SG.

The DR800SG is an 8.1-inch touchscreen e-book reader. This reader also offers support for multi-mode 3G wireless capabilities. This feature allows users to access the company’s online bookstore. This iRex reader incorporates the latest electronic paper display technology that claims to deliver an experience that is closer to reading ordinary paper. Boasting of its longer battery life and lightweight, it includes an interactive touchscreen interface that makes navigating through the device a breeze.

“Consumers are ready for eReaders, but the device is only one piece of the equation. People want an enjoyable, easy reading experience with no-hassle access to content. IRex’s strategy – based on giving consumers choice – and the partnerships we have in place make it easier for them to purchase a device, access content and enjoy it wherever they are,” said Kevin Hamilton, North American CEO of IRex Technologies. “IRex has been a driving force behind the evolution of eReaders since its founders invented e-paper display technology based on E Ink Corporation’s electronic ink. With the DR800SG, we bring to market all that readers have been asking for: a stellar device that puts the reader in the driver seat with regard to where they buy content and what they do with it.”

The DR800SG is compatible with various other store formats like Fictionwise, LibreDigital and Newspaper Direct and the universal EPUB format. Powered by a multi-standard Qualcomm Gobi chipset, this reader boasts of 2GB internal memory. The iRex device is supported by device’s key partners like Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, Qualcomm and Verizon Wireless.

The iRex DR800SG e-book reader will be made available next month at select Best Buy location. The reader will also bundle up a leather cover and wireless access to download content. The reader is expected to retail for around $399.99 (approx. Rs. 19,215).
