NEC Announces NP500WS and NP600S Portable Short Throw Projectors

NEC NP500WS and NP600S Projectors

NEC has introduced two new portable short throw projectors, namely NP500WS and NP600S.

With the ability to display at a short distance, both the full-featured projectors meet the demands of educational facilities, small-to-medium-sized businesses and corporate applications.

The NP500WS offers a wide-aspect ratio, 1280 x 800 native resolution at 2100 lumens, while the NP600S delivers a 1024 x 768 native resolution at 2600 lumens.

Further, the NP series of short throw projectors comes with a contrast ratio of 600:1 and provides up to 4000 hours of lamp life in ECO Mode. Both projectors are capable of displaying a 77-inch diagonal image from a mere 3 feet, 10 inches on a whiteboard.

“The NP Short Throw Series adds versatility to the NEC projector line by providing the unique ability to cast an image onto the screen from a short distance of less than 4-feet,” explained Rich McPherson, Product Manager at NEC Display Solutions. “The NP500WS and NP600S portable projectors are standout products for rooms that have little projection space but require bright images and easy-to-use technologies. With innovative components such as the projectors’ wall mounting capabilities, the NP Short Throw Series enables users to bring new technology into an existing space that requires some creativity during installation.”

By using the projectors virtual remote (DDC/CI), users can easily control the projector directly from a computer and leave behind the use of additional control cables. Users can also monitor and adjust the projectors remotely with the help of remote diagnostics.

Additionally, the units support closed captioning function to display text information for the hearing impaired; dual computer inputs (VGA and DVI-I) to rapidly switch between presentations; and a built-in RJ45 connection for quick LAN access.

Some of the other features of the NP series short throw projecting devices are the Auto Power ON via RGB (15-pin) input that automatically switch’s ON the systems when a signal is detected without a need for a remote control, AutoSense technology that intuitively syncs them with most computer signals and features one-touch image optimization and Automatic Vertical Keystone Correction to tilt projectors up or down and maintain the display-quality of a square image.

Both the NP500WS and NP600S portable projectors come with a powerful 7-watt speaker and an optional wall mount kit.

Expected to be rolled out in the stores by April 2009, the NEC NP500WS and NP600S short throw projectors carry a price tag of $1199 (approx. Rs. 58,430).
