Astak to launch Pocket Pro eBook reader with Adobe Systems
Astak has joined the race to offer eBook readers. However, it has gone a step further and incorporated the Adobe Digital Editions in its latest Pocket Pro eBook reader. The Adobe technology renders the Pro a strong opponent of the Amazon Kindle.
After Sony, Astak is the second company to acquire the rights to incorporate the Adobe Digital Editions in their 5-inch and 6-inch models. This move will enable users to purchase and read copyright protected books on their devices. The 5-inch Pocket Pro is said to support more than 20DRM-free formats. This reader also allows users to read non-copyright protected content. This feature allows users to access various ebook websites.
“We are very excited because the Pocket Pro will give customers greatest freedom of choice. Whether it’s classic titles or new releases, the customer can finally read it all on one device,” said Walter Shan, project director of Astak’s eBook Reader Department.
The 8-level grayscale E-ink screen allows users to experience an almost printed text reading experience. Weighing just 6 ounces, the Pocket Pro promises strain-less viewing. The highlights of the reader include 400 MHz processor and 512MB of memory that can be expanded up to 16GB.
The rechargeable battery lasts up to 8000 page turns. Users can also store and play music on this reader. The other notable features of the Pro include PDF reflow to improve the readability of documents and text-to-speech function. Available in six different colors, the Pocket Pro provides users a choice of three or more font sizes.
The Astak Pocket Pro eBook reader is now available for pre-order and is expected to start shipping by the end of the month. The reader will initially be offered at a promotional price of $199 (approx. Rs. 9,525).
