Amazon Kindle price slashed to $259

Amazon Kindle Reader

A host of e-book readers followed the Kindle into the market. But none of them were able to match up to the popularity of the Kindle. And now, Amazon offers this highly acknowledged at a lower price of $259. Well, we know that it is just too good to be true, but the Kindle will now be offered for a full $40 less.

The Kindle flaunts a 6-inch e-ink display that promises to replicate all documents clearly. This reader is capable of wirelessly downloading books, newspapers, magazines, blogs as well as personal documents. To provide added convenience to users, the Kindle supports 3G network eliminating the need to search for Wi-Fi hotspots. This allows users to wirelessly download e-books within seconds from the Kindle store.

“Kindle is the most wished for, the most gifted, and the #1 bestselling product across the millions of items we sell on Amazon, and we’re excited to be able to lower the price,” said Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com Founder and CEO. “We’re also excited to announce a new addition to the Kindle family—Kindle with global wireless. At home or abroad in over 100 countries, you can think of a book and download it wirelessly in less than 60 seconds.”

“Kindle has revolutionized the way we purchase and read books, by making it mobile, easy and intuitive,” said Randall Stephenson, chairman and chief executive officer of AT&T. “We are excited to work with Amazon to help readers access books even faster and from significantly more places than ever before, including more than 100 countries and territories around the world through AT&T’s global wireless coverage.”

Measuring around 0.36-inches in thickness, the Kindle weighs around 10 ounces. The absence of backlight in the display of this reader eliminates the eye-strain and glare that users normally complain about. The highlight of this e-book reader is its 2GB memory space and the battery that promises to keep the device juiced up for a longer period of time. With a single charge, the Kindle can be used for approximately two weeks without the wireless or for four days with the wireless connectivity. The device also comes with a text-to speech feature.
