LCOS Reflective LCD Panels by Canon

LCOS Canon announces its LCOS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) reflective LCD panels that make up the key device in multimedia projectors. Canon has come up with two types of LCOS panels namely WUXGA and SXGA. WUXGA is a 0.7-inch, 1920 x 1200 pixels panel and the world’s first small sized LCOS panel with such a level of resolution. SXGA is a 0.55-inch 1400 x 1050 pixels panel.

LCOS panels help to reproduce exceptional high resolution images that eliminate from grid patterns appearing over the projector image called “lattice effect”. This LCOS technology has earned its share of respect within the industry.

Canon launched high-resolution multimedia office projectors incorporating LCOS panels in 2004. The products featured Canon’s proprietary AISYS (Aspectual Illumination System) technology that enhanced the LCOS projectors with a compact body to realize bright and high contrast images. Thus it made its place in specialized fields like design, simulation and medicine apart from general business and education.

Canon has developed all the important parts essential for high-performance projectors like optimizing LCOS panel performance by the AISYS optical engine, complementing the high-resolution panels by minimizing image distortion with the projection lenses and driving the panels by drive IC.

Canon’s WUXGA projects HDTV-resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) images and also has a display of ever-increasing PC image-resolution levels. Canon is also said to be working towards the realization of cross-media imaging which is spanning a diverse range of input and output devices. Canon aims to continue delivering products with high resolution and image quality.
