One of the world leaders in TFT-LCD manufacturing, LG Display has announced the development of innovative LCD screens that come in a very unique shape. This latest novel LCD is said to be the world’s largest display to appear in a 6-inch egg-shaped and 1.4-inch circular-shape.
With this launch, the company has taken a step forward and has gone beyond the traditional square-shaped LCDs. Now, manufacturers can get inspired to develop LCDs in a different shape and give importance to alternative display designs.Claiming to be the largest LCD in an oval shape, the 6-inch elliptical LCD has dimensions of 78.8 x 131.4 mm (HxW), and the 1.4-inch circular LCD is said to measure 35.5 mm in diameter.
This ground-breaking display has the potential of flaunting up to 262,000 colors and also allows users to view the images at around 160 degree viewing angle.
The maker of Elliptical and Circular-shaped LCDs has combined various materials that are error-free and include cutting-edge techniques. These equipments have the ability to get rid of technical restrictions while developing curved LCDs
The elliptical-shaped LCD can be used as an array of applications such as digital photo frame, instrument panels for automobile and home electronics. The circular LCD can also work as small digital devices like mobile phones, watches and gaming devices.
LG’s elliptical and circular-shaped LCDs will be showcased at the 2008 Society for Information Display (SID) exhibition in Los Angeles, which is slated to be held from 18-23 May.
