Sharp Ultra-sensitive Touchscreen LCD with Photo Sensor in each Pixel

Sharp multi-touch LCD Sharp has developed a new touchscreen LCD with scanner functions.

The most interesting feature of the device is an optional sensor, which is built into each pixel of the LCD panel. This helps to eliminate the need to place a film over the panel delivering improved image quality for touch screen functions.

The latest Sharp LCD display is 3.5-inch in size and features 320x 480 of QVGA resolution. It supports multi-touch for users to tap the screen with two fingers to enlarge or reduce a displayed map.

The scanner function can be applied to portable digital devices for business users that enable the consumers to scan the business card by placing it on the screen. Moreover, this function can also be used for authenticating fingerprints.

Apparently, the new LCD display can be used for smartphones, digicams, UMPCs and ultra-portable notebooks.

Sharp will start the shipment of the Ultra-sensitive Touchscreen LCD this month. Its mass production is expected to start next spring.
