The announcement of the Olympus SZ-31MR camera comes close on the heels of the OM-D E-M5 micro four thirds unveiling. This newbie borrows features such as the multi-recording function which facilitates capturing 1080p HD videos and 16MP still images simultaneously from its predecessor, the SZ-30MR digital camera.

Just like its previous version, the SZ-31MR device has been incorporated with a 24x wide-angle optical zoom lens. The enhancements to this offering arrive in the form of high-speed sequential shooting at 10 frames per second, two separate TruePic V image processors as well as new iHS technology that is designed to aid in snapping decent images even in low-light conditions. It has also been embedded with a 3-inch 920,000-dot LCD display through which avid photographers can easily adjust shutter speed, zoom, camera focus, display images and more.

The gadget includes multi motion movie IS and dual image stabilization which help in recording blur-free videos and images, respectively. Additionally, a Hand-Held Starlight mode has also been included and as the name suggests, photographers should be able to capture quality night scenes without the use of a tripod. The other main features of the device spell out to be Magic Art Filters for applying special effects to both images as well as the videos shot on the camera. Photo slideshows created on the snapper can be personalized by including transition effects and music.

The Olympus SZ-31MR price is chalked out at $399.99 and it is expected to surface sometime in late April 2012. The mentioned color options for the body cover silver and black.
