Panasonic unveils DMC-ZX1 digital camera with 8x optical zoom

Panasonic has announced another addition to its Lumix range of cameras called the DMC-ZX1. This camera is said to offer a compact design and a powerful 8x optical zoom.

It features the newly developed lens unit which includes 0.3mm super-thin aspherical lens and 0.3mm spherical lens. The camera includes a 25mm ultra wide angle Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens and 12.1-megapixel high resolution CCD into a compact body. The Extra Optical Zoom function uses the centre part of the CCD to provide additional magnification. This function extends the 8x zoom power to 15.6x.

Panasonic’s Intelligent Auto mode includes an advanced image stabilization system, Power O.I.S and Face Recognition. The iA mode automatically selects the various options to enhances the quality of the images. The iA mode also inherits fundamental functions like Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Exposure, automatic backlight and Intelligent Scene Selector.

The camera comes equipped with twice the shake suppression capability as compared to the previous models. Face Recognition function remembers and registers faces. It is capable of registering up to six faces and can recognize up to three faces simultaneously to show their names. The AF Tracking allows the ZX1 to lock any subject and keep it in focus even if it moves.

The camera also incorporates the new and improved Ultra High-Speed AF that promises to provide outstanding performance. The camera separates the low-frequency and high-frequency noise separately to deliver clear and sharp images. The multi-task image-processing engine delivers a super-fast response time.

The camera also features modes like the burst shooting mode, High-speed Burst shooting mode and Flash Burst mode which allow users to take consecutive snap shots. The DMC-ZX1 is said to be extremely easy to use and is made available with pre-installed PHOTOfunStudio 4.0 software.

The Panasonic DMC-ZX1 camera will be available from September in a wide range of colors including red, white, blue, black and silver. The camera is expected to be priced at $279.95 (approx. Rs. 13,428).
