Ricoh rolls out GXR interchangeable unit camera system

Adding one more device to their product lineup, Ricoh proclaimed the launch of the GXR interchangeable unit camera system. The device boasts of the world’s smallest and lightest digital camera with the capability to swap lenses.
The ground-breaking GXR is an interchangeable unit camera system in which lenses can be replaced via a slide-in mount method to fasten camera units to the body. The lens, image sensor and image processing engine are built-in the camera units so the body itself does not enclose an image sensor. The GXR is a combination of advanced image quality and superior manual control of a SLR, with the pocketability and handling of a compact device. Camera unit swapping is as rapid and effortless as shifting a memory card due to the pioneering slide-in mount design.
This CMOS sensor of the camera unit measures 23.6mm x 15.7mm. The device offers photographers with the preliminary option of two camera units. The first is the GR prime lens fixed with a 12 megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor and GR Engine III. This feature can be perfect for portrait and macro photography. The second is a 3x wide-angle zoom Ricoh lens coordinated with a superior performance of 10 megapixel CCD sensor and Smooth Imaging Engine IV, ideal for a varied collection of scenes counting extensive landscapes and snap shooting. To decrease hand-motion blur, a camera shake correction function can be applied.
Image sensors possess a broad range of creative characteristics that relate to their size and kind. Consequently the major advantage of this design is superior power of expression with every lens delicately adjusted to its respective sensor and image processing engine. This exclusive structure also makes it innately hard for dirt and dust to penetrate the camera and affect sensor performance. The automatic exposure mode comprises of program shift mode, shutter priority mode and aperture priority mode. Picture settings can be tailored with 9 setting levels for effortless formation of a varied choice of images. ISO 3200 enables shooting even in dim light conditions. The digital camera boasts of superior shooting abilities to aid in arresting fleeting chances.
The new Direct screen facilitates present settings to be exhibited and altered. The high-resolution LCD picture display offers an extensive viewing angle and high contrast. The GXR can utilize the GR DIGITAL III external flash (GF-1), which may be able to perform TTL flash via auxiliary flash. The camera is extremely useful to shoot in bright outdoor locations. With a 100% field of view, the device exhibits information in the similar manner as the picture display, therefore facilitating the photographer to shoot in a film camera style.
The GXR can be obtainable from early December 2009. The device would be sold completely through the Ricoh Pro G Dealer Network.
