Samsung launches NX Series of Hybrid Digital Cameras at PMA 2009

Samsung NX Series Hybrid Digital Camera

At PMA 2009, Samsung has raised the curtains off the latest hybrid digital cameras line-up, called the NX series.

Highlighting the incorporation of the APS-C Image Sensor, the latest NX series boasts the ability to bridge the gap between compact digital cameras and DSLRs. With the image sensor, it utilizes a much larger surface area to accumulate light and creates higher-quality images, which are believed to be superior to the existing digital camera systems.

The photographic tool claims to deliver the performance and image quality as that of a DSLR camera in a portable and convenient point-and-shoot design.

In addition to the combined attributes of DSLR and digital camera, the Samsung’s new NX Series is equipped with an ultra-precise Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) that has significantly reduced the size and weight of the unit. It is designed in such a manner that the distance between the lens and image sensor (flange back) is minimized by approximately 60% compared to traditional DSLRs.

It also integrates Live View functionality that allows users to frame their shots on the high-resolution screen.

Sang-jin Park, CEO of Samsung Digital Imaging Company, stated, “With the release of the NX Series, a digital camera that combines the strengths of a DSLR and compact digital camera, Samsung Digital Imaging will become a global leader in the new hybrid digital camera market and achieve the company’s goal to become the global leader in the digital camera market by 2012.”

However, no details are mentioned about the screen size, camera’s resolution and zooming capabilities.

The first model of the Samsung NX Series of hybrid digital cameras is slated to debut in the market by Q2 of 2009.
