Everex IMPACT GC3502 Back-to-School Computer Launched

Everex, known for the design and production of PCs, has announced the availability of the Desktop Computer at Wal-Mart for $298, IMPACT GC3502. For the first time, this desktop PC features open source productivity software from OpenOffice.org

Everex IMPACT GC3502 Eugene Chang, Product Manager for Everex, comments, “For years now, industry restrictions and tightening profit margins have forced PC manufacturers to shy away from offering productivity software on their new PCs. In creating the eco-friendly GC3502, our main focus was to build a no-compromise, back-to-school PC with all the software applications a typical student would require, without resorting to bundling frivolous trial versions or increasing prices 30 percent.”

Here are the features of the eco-friendly GC3502 desktop computer:

  • Powered by the energy-efficient 1.5GHz VIA C7-D processor
  • Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic operating system
  • 1GB DDR2 533MHz SDRAM of system memory
  • 80GB, 7200RPM SATA hard disk drive
  • DVD-ROM/CD-RW optical drive
  • The OpenOffice.org 2.2, which also includes WRITER, IMPRESS, MATH, DRAW, CALC, BASE, is a well received open-source office suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. OpenOffice.org 2.2 is a full-featured office productivity suite with an interface familiar to most users and compatible with files created in Microsoft Office.

    Besides the above features, the latest Impact GC3502 provides a VIA Chrome 9 graphic card, a Realtek High-Definition Audio as the soundcard, and all the accessories needed to start the computer – keyboard, mouse and speakers.

    Targeting at the school-going students, the Everex IMPACT GC3502 will be available in U.S. through Wall-Mart for just $298 (approx. Rs. 11,920).

      Build a computer to keep price low and add Windows Vista sounds terrible.
      50$ less without Vista. And anyway, Vista is SLOW with 1GB memory.
